Before you go

In preparation for your trip through Kyrgyzstan, please bear in mind the following: Currency: The local currency is the Kyrgyz Som (KGS); while exchange offices are common in cities, you will need cash for yurt stays and mountain markets. Connectivity: High-speed 4G is available in main towns, but expect total disconnection when trekking in deep mountain valleys. Equipment: Even in summer, mountain weather is unpredictable; bring layers and gear suitable for sudden temperature drops at high altitudes.

Visa

Kyrgyzstan is known for having one of the most liberal visa regimes in Central Asia: Visa-Free: Citizens of over 60 countries can enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free for periods ranging from 30 days to indefinitely. E-Visa: For those not eligible for visa-free entry, the electronic visa portal provides a fast and efficient application process. Simplified Entry: The country aims to be an open hub for mountain tourism and nomadic exploration.

Get to

The main gateways to the country are through the north and south, providing easy access for international travelers: Manas International Airport: Located near the capital, Bishkek, it is the primary international hub with flights from Istanbul, Dubai, and across Asia. Osh Airport: Serving the south of the country, this airport is convenient for those heading to the Pamir-Alay mountains or crossing from Uzbekistan. Regional Connectivity: Excellent road links connect Kyrgyzstan to Kazakhstan (Almaty) and Uzbekistan (Tashkent), making multi-country tours seamless.

What to Expect

Kyrgyzstan offers a pristine natural environment where the nomadic spirit is very much alive: High-Altitude Landscapes: With an average elevation of 2,750 meters, the country is a paradise for trekkers, horse riders, and photographers. Yurt Hospitality: You can stay in authentic felt yurts on high-altitude summer pastures (jailoos) and experience a lifestyle unchanged for centuries. Continental Climate: Expect hot summers in the valleys and cool, fresh air in the mountains. Lake Issyk-Kul provides a temperate microclimate perfect for relaxation.
